Lumecca is an intense pulse light (IPL) that delivers up to 3X more energy in the 500-600nm range to improve efficacy for vascular and pigmented lesions. It is optimized for clinicians to treat a variety of skin types and conditions with just a single session.

Each treatment takes about 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area. Your session will begin with your Healthcare Professional providing you with protective goggles. They’ll apply a cooling gel before moving the handpiece across the targeted area. As the calibrated light waves pulse and heat the surface of your skin, pigmented spots will be pulled to the surface. These flakes of pigment will darken and slough off over the next few days.The device’s heat also stimulates your body’s natural collagen production, making pores look smaller and skin look firmer and smoother.

Lumecca can be used on all areas of the body. The most common areas of treatment are zones that are regularly exposed to the sun. This often includes the face, neck, décolletage, legs, hands and arms. Single spot treatments are also available for more targeted concerns.

Depending on your pain tolerance, Lumecca can be easy to endure as it is a quicker treatment. A cooling gel is applied to make the procedure more comfortable. The Lumecca handpiece also has a regulating sapphire cooling tip to ensure the light never gets too hot. The procedure can feel like a rubber band snap or a tingle with heat.

Redness and a slight warming of the skin are normal after treatment and usually subsides within an hour. Over the next 24-48 hours you may see a darkening of pigmented spots; in the week afterwards the pigmented lesions flake off, leading to an evening out of skin tone. After treating vascular lesions you may see the vessel blanch and disappear or a color change in the vessel which dissipates after a few days.

After your treatment your skin may be a bit red and warm, this can last anywhere from an hour to a day. However, because Lumecca doesn’t injure or puncture the skin, you won’t have any actual downtime. The most important aftercare for Lumecca is sun exposure. Sun exposure should be limited for 2 weeks. Hats are a must as well please. The week following treatment, you may notice a darkening of pigmented spots. In the weeks following, the pigmented lesions will clear, leading to an evening out of the skin tone. After treating vascular lesions, you may see the vein blanch or a color change in the vessel, which will dissipate after a few days.

Most patients do not experience any side effects and any sensitivity reaction usually resolves within a few hours. Patients may find they are sensitive to sunlight immediately after treatment. It is recommended to avoid direct sunlight and tanning for 7 to 10 days after treatment.

Removal of pigmentation is largely permanent, but they can recur or new pigmentation can form with the natural ageing process or continued sun exposure. Vessels that are closed do have a chance of re-opening and re-appearing, and a clinical consult and recommendation of which to treat are advised. The rejuvenative and skin brightening properties typically require maintenance sessions every 4 to 8 weeks.

An improved skin appearance can be noted after the first session. Multiple sessions provide even better results. Treatment regime depends on the severity of skin damage, skin type, type of treatment (vascular vs sun damage) and energy settings.
